Wind energy and environment
Like any human activity, the operation of wind farms leads to changes in the environment in which the site is located. During development, environmental studies, regulated by law, allow for case-by-case sensitivity assessments and the determination of measures to best integrate the park into its environment.
As Boralex’s first wind farm in the Allier department, Plateau de Savernat and its environmental aspect received special attention. The operation of the wind farm coincided with the implementation of biodiversity measures, established in consultation with local naturalist associations, including measures to reduce its impact on bats.
These measures aimed at creating roosts and hunting areas for bats, as well as planting a 270-meter hedge (see photo opposite) and creating two ponds on a farm. This dual approach helps create favorable habitat conditions for this animal.

Educational Trail
In partnership with the Vallée Coeur de France tourist office, Boralex inaugurated the “Parcours des vents” in 2020. This educational hike highlights the consideration of biodiversity in wind farm operations and the preliminary excavations conducted by the French National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research (INRAP) before the construction of the wind farm.
