Boralex inc. and Six Nations Group marked an important milestone with the official inauguration of the Hagersville Battery Energy Storage Park, Canada’s largest operating battery energy storage facility. The event brought together Indigenous partners, community members, elected officials, industry representatives and key stakeholders to celebrate the successful delivery of a landmark project for Ontario’s electricity system.

The on-site ceremony highlighted the strength of the long-standing partnership between Boralex and Six Nations Group as well as the collective effort that made Hagersville possible. This collaboration continues to grow, notably with the Oxford Battery Energy Storage project currently under construction, another co-developed initiative that reflects the shared long-term vision of the partners.

The event opened with a Thanksgiving Address led by representatives of Six Nations of the Grand River, grounding the inauguration in respect, collaboration and shared purpose.

Remarks were delivered by Sherri‑Lyn Hill, Elected Chief of Six Nations of the Grand River, Matt Jamieson, President and CEO of Six Nations Group, Patrick Decostre, President and CEO of Boralex, Robin Deveaux, Executive Vice President and General Manager, North America, Boralex, and Lesley Gallinger, President and CEO of the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), along with representatives from Haldimand County and the provincial energy sector, who acknowledged the project’s importance for the region and for Ontario’s energy transition.

The ceremony concluded with an official ribbon cutting, symbolically marking the beginning of long-term operations at the Hagersville facility. Guests were then invited to participate in a guided site tour, offering a closer look at the installations and a deeper understanding of the project’s scale, technology and strategic role within Ontario’s electricity system.

Commissioned in February 2026, the 300 MW / 1,200 MWh Hagersville Battery Energy Storage Park was co-developed by Boralex and Six Nations Group and is now the largest operating battery storage facility in Canada. The project was recently recognized as “Innovative Clean Energy Project of the Year” by the Canadian Renewable Energy Association (CanREA), underscoring its leadership and contribution to advancing large-scale energy storage in the country.

As a large-scale storage asset, Hagersville plays a critical role in strengthening grid reliability, supporting the integration of renewable energy and meeting Ontario’s growing electricity needs identified by the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO). With its ability to deliver up to four hours of continuous power at full capacity, the facility enhances system flexibility during periods of peak demand.

Throughout development, construction and now operation, health and safety remained a top priority, guiding all activities on site. The project also prioritized local economic benefits, including the involvement of A6N General Partnerships, majority-owned by Six Nations Group, to deliver key civil works, further strengthening Indigenous participation and local employment.

With the inauguration of Hagersville and the recent commissioning of the Sanjgon Battery Energy Storage Facility, Boralex is now Canada’s largest battery storage operator, reinforcing its leadership in building the energy infrastructure needed to support a reliable, resilient and decarbonized power system.

The inauguration of the Hagersville Battery Energy Storage Park marks another important milestone in our long-standing partnership with Boralex and reflects the strength of the relationship we have built over the years. As we continue advancing new energy storage projects together, the Hagersville Energy Storage Park reinforces Six Nations Group’s growing leadership in Canada’s energy storage sector and highlights the important role Indigenous partners are playing in building reliable, future-focused energy infrastructure.

Matt Jamieson
President and CEO of Six Nations Group

Today marks an important moment for our community and for First Nation participation in the clean energy sector. The Hagersville Energy Storage Park demonstrates what’s possible when First Nations are included as true partners from the very beginning. It’s powerful to see innovation grounded in respect, collaboration, and shared commitment while creating opportunities that will support our people.

Cheffe Sherri-Lyn Hill
Elected Chief of Six Nations of the Grand River

Battery storage facilities are playing an increasingly critical role in maintaining Ontario’s reliable and affordable electricity system. The Hagersville Battery Energy Storage Park is now the largest operating battery storage facility in Canada, demonstrating the value of strong partnerships with Indigenous communities and success of the IESO’s competitive procurement processes.

Lesley Gallinger
President & CEO, Independent Electricity System Operator

Congratulations on this inauguration. I wish you success and safety as you launch this world-class initiative.

The commissioning of the Hagersville facility marks a major milestone in our 2030 Strategy. It demonstrates our ability to deliver infrastructure that strengthens grid reliability and accelerates the deployment of renewable energy, two critical levers to support economic growth, energy security, and decarbonization. By advancing solutions that are intelligently integrated into the power system and built on strong partnerships, we are creating lasting value for communities and all our stakeholders.

Patrick Decostre
President and CEO of Boralex

Hagersville is a tangible example of what we aim to build everywhere we operate: a genuine partnership, rooted locally and built for the long term. Being a partner of choice starts with being a good neighbour and shaping, together with Indigenous partners, municipalities and local communities, a shared vision we can carry forward. It is the strength of these relationships that makes lasting, meaningful projects possible for communities and for the energy system.
